Murrells Inlet, SC – Gayle Richmond, MD, FACOG has been elected Chief of the Medical Staff of Tidelands Health.
Dr. Richmond, a well-respected OB/GYN and the founder of Carolina OB/GYN, has served on the hospital staff since 1988 where has held numerous leadership positions including Vice Chief from 2015-2017. She currently serves on the health system’s Board of Trustees.
“My service as Chief of the Medical Staff is an opportunity to provide leadership and support to our dedicated physicians who deliver quality, compassionate care at our health system’s more than 50 locations,” she said.
Dr. Gayle Richmond is a Salem, MA native with an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She attended medical school and completed her residency at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Richmond, a Fellow in the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), is well respected among patients and peers and is considered a pioneer in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
In 1988, Dr. Richmond founded Carolina OB/GYN in a small office in Georgetown, SC. From its humble beginnings, the practice has grown to include offices in Murrells Inlet, Georgetown and Myrtle Beach, SC staffed by five OB/GYN’s and three certified nurse midwives.
In 2003, she introduced Centering Pregnancy to the Grand Strand area, and she continues to make strides in the advancement of women’s healthcare. Dr. Richmond made history when she was the first woman to be elected Chief of the Medical Staff of the former Georgetown Hospital System in Georgetown, SC.
