Welcome to Carolina OB/GYN Centering—An Attractive Option for Those Expecting
CenteringPregnancy®, also known as ‘Centering,’ is a way for expectant moms and partners to bond, share fears, concerns, advice and even a few laughs as they prepare to welcome a new baby. This innovative way to receive prenatal care helps women stay engaged in the medical aspects of their pregnancy as they track their weight, blood pressure, and their baby’s development throughout the nine-month journey.
Centering was introduced to Horry and Georgetown Counties in 2013 by Dr. Gayle Richmond, Founder of Carolina OB/GYN. To date, more than 600 women have participated in Carolina OB/GYN’s Centering program with many women choosing Centering with each of their pregnancies.
How Does Centering Work?
CenteringPregnancy® is a model of care that provides enhanced education, support, and health care for a group of women who are due to have babies at the same time. The prenatal appointments and content follow nationally recognized guidelines with flexibility and time to explore health and wellness topics that fit the group’s needs.
While the first visit is the same as traditional prenatal care–a physical exam and ultrasound, expectant mothers then meet as a group during eight, two-hour sessions held every three weeks at Carolina OB/GYN’s office in Murrells Inlet.
Each session includes a prenatal check-up by one of our certified nurse-midwives and provider-facilitated group discussion. Expert guest speakers often present information on lactation, chiropractic care, yoga, nutrition, and labor and delivery.
If any patient requires additional individual appointments, these will be scheduled.
